STEVE MACKAY
The Prisoner (7")
b/w United Scum Soundclash: Sevad Kooh

The lead single from the newest album of Steve Mackay is a brooding dirge called "The Prisoner". Fans of Mackay's classic sax work on songs like The Stooges' "Funhouse", will have no problem recognizing the guest vocalist. Mackay also provides the frontal assault on "Sevad Kooh" from "Machine Gun". U.S.S. shatter conventional notions of music with their detailed approach to sound.

UNITED SCUM SOUNDCLASH

Machine Gun

The ongoing Portuguese/American collaboration project U.S.S. presents their cinematic masterwork, "Machine Gun". Delving into the world of war and weapons obsession, the recordings feature members of Soopa, Radon, Ovo, Barbez, The Stooges, Love 666, Hallux and Sonic Suicide Squad. This intricately recorded production is shockingly accessible yet confounding in nature. Steve Mackay leads the attack on this audio jihad.

SIKHARA
IV War Haka

This nomadic percussion ensemble has played over 500 gigs across Europe, Asia and the States. Their fourth full length combines the brute force of their live performance with the most detailed, hypnotic studio work to date. "IV War Haka" is a tale of war between "the third world" and "civilized" societies. The 4 drummer assault includes the oil drum clanker of Savage Republic.

"THE PRISONER"

2013 has been yet another strange chapter in the incredible musical voyage of Steve Mackay.  After wrapping up a new album, he and his Stooges band-mates are touring the world once again.  He joined his long time collaborators The Violent Femmes for a reunion show, the live Snakefinger album "History of the Blues"  is going to be re-issued, and any free moment he is ready to join any of his numerous collaborators from 10 years of work with his "Radon Ensemble".

Preparing for our first release as Polyglot, "Sometimes Like This I Talk"  we were thrilled when Iggy Pop offered to contribute vocals to a song and later used it for a feature in the New York Times Style "Godfather's of Glam" article.  However, not being ones to brag...we credited his performance as Ypsi Jim, an old Michigan nickname.   Unfortunately, the song received little attention and surprisingly the limited edition 7" has not even sold out.

With our friends at WFMU and the Free Music Archive, we proudly offer a free listen to "The Prisoner" by Steve Mackay, with Mike Watt, Henry Barnes, Kamilsky and Iggy Pop.   Please check out the other artists newly featured in the Polyglot Archive as well.

POLYGLOT : MADE IN CHINA ???

Through years with the Radon Collective and now with Polyglot, we have always sought out cooperation with like minded artists and collectives around the world.  While promoting "Sometimes Like This I Talk" with Chinese concerts, collective members Scott Nydegger and Steve Mackay began to find more members for our tribe who are active in the Middle Kingdom.

This spring Polyglot's first Chinese releases are heading across the Pacific, in cooperation with a young, energetic group in the ancient city of Xian called System Error. They recently celebrated their 1 year anniversary with a compilation of Xian artists.

System Error have also helped to present the latest cd from Sikhara, "Healed".   Watch the video for the single "Healed" directed by Mitchell Foy at www.sikhara.org

Listen to the title track from Sikhara's latest and a song from the Xian artist Yang Zhang Guo on the Free Music Archive.

MORE FROM LONG TIME COLLABORATORS

Radon/Polyglot co-founder Sam Lohman has been pounding drums with Virginia kings of doom Akris.    Their track "Part of Me" is new to the FMU archive.   The Atlanta band, Pineal Ventana was one of the big inspirations in the founding period of Radon and especially for Sikhara.  Former member Jason LaFarge now runs the studio Seizures Palace in Brooklyn, contributing much of the work towards Polyglot releases, while fellow PV alumni Mitchell Foy is currently working on the project StarWave.  Hear their latest track in the Polyglot archive.      Dave Howard began in NYC with the band RATATRATR, before finding his way into the Radon fold via Sikhara.  His newest project is Cunningworth's Escape.   And finally, from the classic Love 666 release "American Revolution"  we have posted the track "Preparation for Combat" just to remind all, with each new wave of musical presentation, the Revolution is still the key.
