Capturing the harsh tones of the headset speaker in combination with the reverb created inside of the percussion instrument.u.

This smaller cabinet is usually used as a bass trap, sometimes with the refelction of tins, or with multiple speakers and 2 directional mic setting created a kind maze of sounds , bouncing around..

Primitive materials, limited conditions and the quest for greater sound...

 Recording at Xian, Mecca.

above: experimenting with different configurations for recording with a 4 directional mic    with poor quality speakers and no special conditions for the room, bass or drums are always best up close and at a real low volume      for guitar I might try to do something louder and open up the set up

right: one of my favorites for guitar is to run it through the head-set speaker, but then send the headset through the megaphone, in this case, the megaphone is pointed at the box, to add reverb.

Mics Speakers and Chinese junk

This piece of scrap metal was in the trash behind the building.   Each side has different dimensions and the cross bars have a variety of thicknesses.  Setting it down horizontally, or suspending it, produce another set of tones

One  local resource that has proved useful is a metal gift tin that is commonly given at Chinese holidays.  Here you see it used to construct the "Sexbox".   2 vibrating nipple clamps produce a harsh rythmic noise, with a range of tones based upon which part of the 2 pieces of metal they are in contact with.

If you only have one piece of actual gear, death metal distortion is not a bad start.

On the right: Vendor headset mics

the left:          megaphone and Kareokee speaker

These forms of amplification each have a unique sound output that has been used not only for it's harsh frequency range and direct mic'ing, but has also been chained into a variety of set ups and become a conduit for other elements in this recording system.

The metal tin works well as a reflective source in some recording positions.  The cabinet is one of several enclosures used for recoring or creating reverbs.
