PROPOSAL FOR COOPERATION

background:

Scott Nydegger’s project Sikhara has functioned as an international musical collective working with performers, multi-media participants and film-makers from across the world.

Sikhara has performed over 500 times in 26 countries across the United States, Europe and Asia.   A constant theme of their artistic creations is to take language, characters and stories from various cultures and explore them within a new light.   These creations preserve the integrity of their concepts origins, yet offer the new interpretations of an outsider.

The results are intended both to honor the culture they represent and to teach people in developed western society about the culture and history of various countries they might not otherwise consider.

We all must learn the value in cultural exchange and art can succeed where other outlets fail.   Media such as newspapers can report, translate and transmit facts and figures, but in art we can attempt to create, within an individual, the actual feeling.

Art such as music is likely the most shared ideal between people of all nations.  More than common language, shared political sentiments or social status.

Seeking cooperation:

We are seeking organizations and individuals who can provide Sikhara with the opportunity to perform the “Anduni” spectacle in Armenia.
The ultimate goal of this project is to bring a small group of artists to Armenia, give the complete concert and to create a video and other documentation of the performance.
The creative product from this project would be distributed freely, both as a physical item and various internet downloads.
This requires assistance both in locating a performance venue and acquiring the funding to finances the project.

ARMENIAN INSPERATION,  ARMENIA DESTINATION

SIKHARA “Anduni”

Sikhara created a cd, live performance and video based upon the tragic Armenian opera "Anduni".  It is one of their most detailed works to date.  After researching the history behind this piece, the song writing and recording took place at recording studios in 4 countries
The result is an artistic interpretation of the "Great Calamity" through the eyes of Gomidas Vartabed or Komitas.
Sikhara released a cd version of the recorded work on the Los Angeles record label URCK and performed a theatrical presentation in cities across the United States and Western Europe.

The mission:

To bring the history and culture behind this distinctly Armenian story into the consciousness of young people in western society and provide to Armenian people the reflection of an outside perspective.  In this process, we hope to demonstrate the value in international cultural exchange.
