Certainly standing in stark contrast to the usual output of experimental mayhem found within the Mecca confines, is Xian’s foreigner-in-exile cultural collision Yu Ren.   (an ever so clever play on the expression “You People” by offensive yet Chinese speaking laowei)

Yu Ren’s pilgrimage to Mecca resulted from collaboration between Monsieur Nydegger and Alex Rambaud, a hybrid bred musical machine, half French/half El Salvadorian.   Despite vastly different approaches to their current projects, they shared a background in musical taste that runs freely from conventional barriers to include old school industrial, 90’s thrash and their shared muse of the moment, Zef.   In a land devoid of inspiration, marked by a bleak artistic landscape, an actual knowledge of being in a touring band and a sincere dedication to the principle of sex, drugs and rock n’ roll was sufficient to form this partnership.

The album, thus far known by its working title, “Donkey Punch”, could safely be called pop, but during months of work at Mecca, has made a departure from its roots as a Violent Femmes-esque, acoustic-punk formation to something more substantial and sonically explorative.

Literally hundreds of hours of sessions and the manipulation of Mecca’ elusive ghetto technology lent a cathartic experience to a process which tested the limits of endurance, but resulted in some infinatley listenable and valid rock music, straight from the heart of Xian.

So whether you are in Downtown Paris or off in some Distant Place in American, crack open a Dr Pepper and penetrate both ears with the Double Pleasure of these 2 preview tracks.

Every good Donkey Punch still deserves some aural consideration.
